The group spent quite a bit of time on the upcoming August Eclipse. The discussion led by our County EM and also by our County ARES EC covered the topic at some length. Major points include:
-Expected influx of people to Central Oregon could really strain housing, gasoline supplies, food supplies, cell phone capacity and highways before and after the August 21st event. It was suggested that Central Oregonians stock up on supplies before the event
-ARES members are asked to keep their calendars clear for this date and respond to the EC to let them know of their availability. Potential deployment by ARES members could be needed to set up various communication functions/trailers/sites in the Central Oregon area. Expected duration of deployment is a few days before and after the August 21st event.
-Remember SPECIAL EYEGLASSES are needed to view the eclipse. Members need to research these requirements and have the necessary gear during deployment. More about this at the March meeting.
Also discussed was the upcoming LOBOS event April 22 and 23. ARES members are asked to keep their schedules open for the event.
