The next meeting of Deschutes County ARES is March 8, 2017. Time is 6:30 and location is ODOT.
February’s Evening Meeting is on Wednesday February 8 2017 . The meeting will be at the ODOT conference room from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
All Deschutes ARES members are welcome.
A new version of the Deschutes County ARES membership training requirements is on the file locker web page..
Jim P. has created a great 280 page binder that contains a great deal of information about equipment, best practices and ARES information. This binder is a must have for all Deschutes County ARES members and was given out at the November 2016 meeting. Additional copies are available. Jim has also taken the binder and put it in a PDF format for downloading. Look in the page titled “File Locker” on this website. The file (DC ares Feb 17.pdf) is fairly large at 28 meg, so be sure you have a good internet connection before starting a download.
The current SOP is current through February 2017.
The Oregon Section of ARRL has a created a new training course and task list for Oregon ARES members. Deschutes County ARES members are encouraged to look at the website http://www.oregonaresraces.org/. Clicking on the link entitled ARO Training Course provides the path to start the course. All Deschutes County ARES members will need to take this course and pass the final exam. Any questions or a request for a password should be emailed to Deschutes County EC (Andy).
Several important topics were discussed during the November 9th meeting, including emergency power for the new Sheriff’s office ARES radio room, potential ham radio repeater changes, August 2017 solar eclipse, “Last Mile” or neighborhood communications during a communications outage in Central Oregon and training on accurate message handling during a emergency was provided.
Jim P. distributed a Standard Operating Procedures manual. The manual is close to 300 pages long and includes technical references to Deschutes County ARES radio sites and equipment. Parts of this manual will be placed in the file locker on this website for downloading. Thanks Jim!

The June monthly meeting for Deschutes County ARES has been moved to June !st. Plan to attend so you can receive CR 2016 training and deployment information.
Scheduled dates for CR 2016 are June 7th and 9th.
-Reviewed various projects, including moving Sheriff’s office emergency communication ham equipment, ODOT trailer, and the March contest for VHF radio testing the BBS system.
-ALL Deschutes County ARES members are invited to submit their practice ICS213 messages for the VHF contest. BBS entries will be using W7HWY-1 BBS system addressed to KF7UOI. Any questions about the contest can be emailed to KF7UOI@winlink.org.
On March 3rd, several members of the Oregon ARES leadership team traveled to Central Oregon for a multi county meeting. Over 50 people attended the meeting. Topics discussed

-Discussion how OEM communications actually work
Deschutes ARES met on the second Wednesday of January at ODOT. Topics discussed include
1)Establish working team and process to organize new ODOT trailer.
2) Move ham radio equipment to different building at the Sherriff’s office.
3) Second Saturday of the month radio nets.
4) Training needs by members.
